Maylands Brickworks
My alternate motion for the Maylands Brickworks didn’t get a chance to come up as a Foreshadowed motion. However I would like to thank Mayor Dan Bull for the quick thinking to add them in to as amendments to the substantive motion moved by Cr Petersen Pik. There is a 6th limb to the motion, but I don’t have the wording at hand. It basically* added request for a report to prepare a scheme amendment to make the Brickworks Lake and surrounding park land public open space.

Peninsula Road Works
You may have noticed some new islands being installed along Peninsula Road.
The City of Bayswater, and Councillors, have received ongoing complaints from residents in relation to traffic not adhering to the 50km/hr posted speed limit, vehicles overtaking at unsafe locations, and the difficulty of vehicles entering Peninsula Road from side roads due to vehicles speeding which reduces sight distance requirements. In addition, there have also been a number of recorded crashes i

National Volunteers Week
As part of National Volunteer Week Bardon Park Friends Group and Berringa Park Friends Group hosted a thank you breakfast this morning for their volunteers and supporters to acknowledge their contribution to these two environmental areas. A big thank you to David Dyke and Greg Pound for their work in starting and leading these groups, to City of Bayswater Staff Jeremy and Alex for their support and guidance that goes above and beyond, and to all of the volunteers who donate t

Berringa Park Friends Group
During a casual conversation with Greg Pound about the state of Berringa Park I encouraged him to get active in forming a “Friends of” group for the area and was able to connect him with other “Friends of” groups and local residents to get the ball rolling.
Eight months on the group made excellent progress, with support from the City of Bayswater, in clearing weed species from Berringa Park. There is still lots of work to do and we’re keen for more people to get involved. He

Friends of Maylands Lakes
It’s just a smidge over 3 years since, as a new Councillor, I held a public meeting down at the Maylands Lakes to address concerns about their health. From that meeting the Friends of the Maylands Lakes was formed and together we have secured money to assist in restoring the Lakes health. This isn’t a small, nor fast, process. One of the steps is revegetation of the Lakes edges for both filtration and habitat.
Thank you to all the volunteers who pitched in this morning plant

Maylands Waterland
News of the evening is the Federal election results for 2019 is Scott Morrison's Coalition winning. I’m not going to comment on any political party, but what I will say is that this now means a 1.5 million dollar shortfall for the future of Maylands Waterland. The Federal Labor pledge back in March was contingent on a Shorten Government.
Where does that leave Waterland? Well, I’m honestly not sure at the moment. The City of Bayswater has allocated 1.5 million from Public Op
