Maylands Samphires
Thank you to everyone that braved the inclement weather today to come and plant in the Maylands Samphires.
Samphire saltmarshes provide high-tide feeding and roosting areas, as well as important breeding habitat for resident shorebird species, especially our beloved local Pelicans.
Our Samphire areas help to reduce erosion and flooding by reducing water flow; they filter pollution, and reduce the load of suspended sediment entering the river environment, and thus help to pu

Freshening up Eighth Avenue
Improving Eighth Avenue is an ongoing process. Recently, small café macchiato tables were installed between the armchair style seats, and new pedestrian hoops replaced the old damaged ones at the pedestrian crossing. The remaining yellow parking sign poles will soon be replaced to match the new poles on the street, and we are preparing for the planting of new trees in the median in July.
By Spring time, Eighth Avenue will be looking fresher than ever 🌳 #EighthAve #MaylandsT

Winter tree planting!
More than 68,000 native plants and 1,300 trees will be planted across the City this winter - making it our biggest planting season to date. The focus will be on increasing the tree canopy in the Bayswater industrial area, with semi-advanced trees being planted on verges to provide shade, create more attractive streetscapes and bring much needed greenery to the area. The City is also partnering with local environmental groups to plant 68,000 native shrubs and seedlings in Ligh

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) and is commemorated each year on 15 June to highlight one of the worst manifestations of ageism and inequality in our society, elder abuse. Elder abuse is any act which causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust such as a family member or friend. The abuse may be physical, social, financial, psychological or sexual and can include mistreatment and neglect.
In many parts of the world elder

Councillor Column - Maylands' first public parklet
Visitors to the Maylands Town Centre will have a new spot to sit and relax after the City approved the first public parklet to be installed along Eighth Avenue. Located in a parking bay outside Milkd Café, this Maylands Business Association project is designed to provide public seating, alfresco dining, and plenty of greenery with a roof of overhead vines. We want to make it easier, not harder, for businesses and local groups to run their own placemaking initiatives in our to

Antisocial Behaviour
Ongoing antisocial issues have been occurring around the old Autumn Centre (now the ROXY LANE Theatre) at all times of the day and night. The activity has included open drug use, open public urination and defecation, open public sexual intercourse, open public drinking, shouted obscenities, physical altercations, harassment for money, theft, trespassing, intimidation of residents and visitors, and large amounts of litter. Last week I spoke with both the CEO and the Mayor to r

Monthly Report - June 2019
Waterland With the Federal election results of Scott Morrison's Coalition winning Government, the City of Bayswater will not receive the 1.5 Million dollar pledge from Labor as it was contingent on a Shorten Labor Government. Where does that leave Waterland? Well, I’m honestly not sure at the moment. The City of Bayswater has allocated 1.5 million from Public Open Space Reserve. I’m on record for not supporting that because only around $820,000 in the Maylands POS Reserve is
