ELECTIONS
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support in the recent Local Government elections. I was successful in re-election, securing nearly 71% of the vote. I wish both Richard Hall and Robyn Walsh (the other candidates) well in their future endeavours.
Congratulations to returning Councillors, Michelle Sutherland and Sally Palmer, and to newly elected member, Councillor Steven Ostaszewskyj.
Congratulations to our returning Mayor, Councillor Dan Bull, and to our new Deputy Mayor, Councillor Filomena Piffaretti.
LANEWAY ACTIVATION
Our Place Management team has been liaising with businesses in Lyric Lane for a fair while now on initiatives to improve lighting and make the area more pedestrian friendly.
Back in 2015 when I attended my first candidate forum, I spoke quite a bit about the importance of putting people first and activation of laneways. Of course, it’s more than just lights. It’s about making it easier for businesses/buildings to have great interface with these spaces. To make them places you want to go down, and not just utilitarian access for rubbish collection and vehicle shortcuts.
At our Budget workshop I moved to increase the budget for this space to $24,000 and this was supported at Council. Lighting isn’t cheap, but it is the most common feedback I get in relation to our laneways and streets.
If you feel passionate about our laneways, save Tuesday 12 November (6pm) as there will be a public workshop called “Laneways Open” in Lyric Lane. We would love to hear further ideas on place activation. We welcome your input on improvements to our town centre laneways.

MAYLANDS BRICKWORKS
I am continuing to pursue options in regards to the future of the Maylands Brickworks, speaking with Federal members (both in opposition, and in government) as well as speaking with heritage benefactors who may be interested in supporting the revitalisation of this great community asset. I will give further updates when I have more information to share.
TREE POISONINGS
There have been 16 young trees poisoned at Berringa Park. This is devastating to the local Friends of Groups. If you see anyone, or have seen anyone actively damaging one of our trees, please report it to the City.
