Monthly Report - October 2019

Open Street Events

In September Council adopted a simplified process to help make it easier for our community to have open street events.

Examples of open street events include: • Christmas parties • Halloween trick or treating • Neighbourhood street parties • Kids' street play events

The City of Bayswater has now provided an 'Open Street Events Kit' on the link below. This easy to use Kit will include an Application Form and other important information and resources to help you plan your neighbourhood street event.

Elections

The election is fast approaching. Returned vote packages for South Ward are still pretty low. Local Government is the tier of Governance that most directly affects our day to day lives - the condition of your footpaths/roads/parks,/sporting clubs etc, your waste removal, your streets amenity, your townsites amenity, your basic support services (libraries, senior centres etc), your local parks and so much more! Use your voice, and your vote.

All voting packages must be received by the returning officer by 6pm on Saturday 19 October.

AGE FRIENDLY STRATEGY (2017 - 2020) - TWO YEAR PROGRESS UPDATE I am pleased to post the Age Friendly Strategy Two Year Progress Update for your information. Development of this Strategy was one of the first motions I brought to Council as a newly elected member in late 2015.

To date, 36 out of a total of 46 actions from the strategy have been completed, amassing a number of positive outcomes for the community, including: ✅ Increased awareness about local services and opportunities with the launch of the City's Age Friendly Ambassador program and Service Directory for Older Adults;

✅ A number of inclusive and age friendly information tools have been developed, including the Bayswater Beat newsletter with is delivered quarterly to 29,870 households;

✅ Relaunch of the City's website, which has a ‘browse aloud’ facility to enlarge and translate text into speech;

✅ There are now 121 bus shelters throughout the City with space to sit and room for wheelchairs and mobility aids;

✅ Age Friendly Seating installed in the Maylands Town Centre and Noranda Nook; and

✅ A Fit for Life program to increase older adults' participation in health activities, with more than 200 residents attending fitness and social classes over the six week program.

The attached Age Friendly Strategy Two Year Progress Update is also available in hard copies at the City's community centres, Libraries, and Civic Centre.
