The Building Bayswater Community Panel have finished with their workshop session. From here, their recommendations will be compiled and provided to the City to help inform the built form component of the Local Planning Strategy.
Dog Exercise Area Review
The Dog exercise areas survey has now closed. We are currently reviewing existing and potential dog exercise areas in the City of Bayswater in order to accommodate increasing demand and improve public amenity. This survey is to gain a better understanding of the views of residents with regards to dog exercise areas.
City of Bayswater Website redevelopment
The City is now calling for Expressions of Interest from people who are keen to help further shape the City's new website.
The task will require you to undertake a short online exercise to test the proposed new sitemap for the website, which should take approximately 15 minutes of your time. To register your details, please use the submission form that can be found at https://engage.bayswater.wa.gov.au/website-redevelopment.
Everyone who registers by 14 March and completes the online exercise will go in to the draw to win one of two $100 gift vouchers.
Expressions of interest close at 4pm Wednesday 14 March 2018. After this date the City will be in contact with everyone who has registered, with details of how to participate.

Playground Replacement program
The final survey for the De Lacy Reserve playground design has concluded. This will inform the final design of the playground equipment at De Lacy Reserve. The final designed are between a rubber soft fall or sand. The sand option will allow enough budget room for a flying fox to be installed. We should find out later this week which option the community has selected.
Eighth Avenue (between Guildford Road and Whatley Crescent) has completed road resurfacing works. This is part of Stage one of the proposed works for that area. The Line-marking will occur tonight (12/3/2018), and the replacement kerbing and footpaths is scheduled to occur in early April.
Stage 2 will involve installing planter boxes with trees and lower plantings to enhance the Eighth Avenue streetscape, and this will be carried out at the end of March. The City has been working in collaboration with Maylands Business Association to ensure current improvements are in harmony with the Association's own Streetscape Plan project for Eighth Avenue. The old asphalt surface has been turned into what is called filings. This material will be recycled and used to stabilise the verges on Ninth Avenue (near Whatley Crescent), to improve the visual aesthetics and reduce the damage done by cars parking on verges in that area.
The Ninth Avenue works are scheduled to commence next week.
On the Agenda for tomorrow night Planning and Development Services meeting of Council are:
Item 9.1.1: Proposed 3 storey single house at 7 Kiln View, Maylands. The Officers recommendation is to approve the development with conditions.
Item 9.1.4: Proposed Change of Use to Dog Day Care Facility and Associated Alterations at 302 Whatley Crescent, Maylands. The Officers recommendation is to approve with conditions.
Personal note: I am concerned that there is no planning guidelines or RSPCA recommendations to guide how many dogs can be housed on a site at the same time. This application is for up to 35 dogs in a 300sqm indoor area. This equates to one dog per 8.57 sqm and staffing is 1 staff per 17.5 dogs.
Item 9.1.6: Proposed micro-brewery and car park. The Officers Recommendation is to approve the development with conditions.
Personal note: I have some queries regarding the ingress and egress of trucks via the laneway system. This includes concerns about truck turning areas, pedestrian safety as there is no footpaths in this vicinity and the safety for patrons at both Rossonero and The Lyric Lane (as both these businesses will/have their main entrance into Lyric Lane.
The Heritage Works Revolving Fund program is working collaboratively with the City of Bayswater to reactivate the former Maylands Brickworks heritage buildings. The State heritage Office invites your comments and ideas about the future of the site, including your feedback on four draft reactivation concepts, which have been provided to prompt community discussion. None of these concepts have been endorsed by the City of Bayswater.
The community engagement period will run from 7 February until 16 March 2018.
