Morrie Lemish Award

As the President of the Maylands Lions Club, it was an honour to receive the Morrie Lemish Award. My first project was to purchase 8 iPads for Maylands Peninsula Primary School to assist with teaching children with disabilities. I was presented with the 2013 Morrie Lemish Award, 2 months into my term as Charter President, from the District Governor Barry Middleton. (also pictured is Duncraig Lion and District Publications Editor Rob Wright).

The award, in the form of a trophy and a perpetual plaque, was presented for an article which appeared in the May edition of the District Newsletter featuring a project to raise sufficient funds to buy eight iPads to be donated to Maylands Peninsula Primary School.

The Maylands club, which was only two months old at the time, applied for a‘Happy Communities’ grant from Bankwest to supplement money raised by members. The iPads cost a little over $3,000 and were handed over to the school on April 19. A satisfactory first project for one of the District’s newest clubs.
