Councillor Column - Maylands' first public parklet
Visitors to the Maylands Town Centre will have a new spot to sit and relax after the City approved the first public parklet to be installed along Eighth Avenue. Located in a parking bay outside Milkd Café, this Maylands Business Association project is designed to provide public seating, alfresco dining, and plenty of greenery with a roof of overhead vines. We want to make it easier, not harder, for businesses and local groups to run their own placemaking initiatives in our to

Councillor Column - Community-led projects to bring vibrancy
We're proud of our great public spaces in the City of Bayswater. Our town centres are not just a collection of shops, but vibrant community hubs where people gather, cultures mix, friends meet, and celebrations happen. The City is keen to support initiatives that bring vibrancy to our town centres of Noranda, Morley, Bayswater and Maylands. With this in mind, community groups and businesses were recently offered the chance to apply for funding that would contribute to the ‘a

Councillor Column - Waterwise Leadership
I am delighted to announce the City of Bayswater was recently recognised as a Gold Waterwise Council at an event hosted by the Hon Minister for Water Dave Kelly MLA. Councillor Column - Eighth Avenue
Eighth Avenue between Whatley Crescent and Guildford Road is one of the major retail and café strips in the Maylands town centre. The strip attracts locals and tourists who want to catch-up over great coffee, tuck into good food, scratch that shopping itch or pop into one of Maylands' boutique bars. Last year, community members at the City's Town Centre Placemaking Workshop told us that an improved Ninth Avenue, and a greener town centre, were top priorities. Now this bustlin

Councillor Column - Protecting our Heritage
The Mayland's Brickworks is a wonderful example of a historic building in the City of Bayswater. The Metropolitan Brick Company began its operations there in 1927 and the buildings have been identified as an important example of brick-making technology and a significant example our industrial history. The kiln is the last remaining Hoffman kiln in Western Australia and is one of only four left in Australia. Council recently approved the start of a concept and feasibility stud

Councillor Column - Conserving water over winter
The City of Bayswater is recognised by the Water Corporation as a 'Gold Waterwise' Council for our water quality and conservation practices. So over the winter to maintain this status we'll be working to further minimise our water use. However, to keep our irrigation systems in good condition, which reduces leaks and the potential for wasting water, the City will occasionally test the systems in our parks and reserves. Everyone can help to reduce water use by complying with

Councillor Column - Connecting with the Environment
In today's modern world fostering a connection to the natural world and promoting environmental awareness is becoming increasingly important. This year the City is holding Maylands Green Day on April 22 at Shearn Memorial Park to celebrate community, culture, creativity and conservation. The purpose of the day is to encourage people to understand and protect their environment, promote sustainability and embrace the natural spaces they have in their own neighbourhoods. To cele
